What is Osteoporosis?


Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens your bones. It is often progresses without any symptoms or pain. It is a silent but destructive condition that robs bones during a woman or a young woman’s most productive time. Bone loss in men usually occurs later in life compared with women, but men can still be at risk of osteoporosis. By the age of 65, men lose bone mass at the same rate as women.
Osteoporosis weakens bones and increases the risk of unexpected fractures. Some of the risk factors for osteoporosis include age, gender, lack of vitamin D, too much coffee or alcohol, steroid medications, smoking, low of calcium intake, and also a family history or hereditary condition occur. People of all ages can get involved in protecting their bones. This is the most common bone disease that can be prevented with a healthy diet and staying physically active.
Osteoporosis is often progresses without symptoms or pain. Losing height may be noticeable or a dowager’s hump may develop with age. However a doctor usually diagnoses osteoporosis after a painful fracture occurs usually in the back, wrist, or hip that results into loss of mobility and independence.
