Chad Mendes fights Hacran Dias on December 15

UFC Featherweight fighter Chad Mendes looking for his second victory on December 15 fight against Hacran Dias in Gold Cost, Queensland, Australia.

Mendes confirmed the fight last Monday on Twitter.

“It’s official like a referee whistle!” Mendes tweeted. “I’m fighting Hacran Dias Dec. 15 in Australia.”

Mendes steps into the Octagon for the second time where he is suffering from a first-round knockout last January 14 to 145-pound champion Jose Aldo at UFC 142.

It is also the first time that Chad Mendes lost a mixed martial match during his 13-bout professional career.

James Graham banned for playing 12 games for biting Billy Slater.

England’s international player James Graham is suspended for playing 12 games after biting the Melbourne’s player Billy Slater during the NRL Grand Final.

Not only the Graham is suspended but also the Canterbury Bulldogs which Graham is in, England is included in the ban consisting of two upcoming Tests against Wales and France, plus two trial games for Canterbury.

Graham was found guilty of biting Slater on the left ear during a first-half brawl at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

Slater made an on-field complaint to officials, who noted that the Australian international full-back’s ear was bleeding.

NBA sets flopping penalties with fines and possibly suspension.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has announced anti-flopping rules that will fine repeat offenders.

The NBA league said last Wednesday that flopping will be defined as “any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player.”

Players will get a warning the first time, then be fined $5,000 the second time. The fines increase to $30,000 for a fifth offense, if the flopping still goes on, the player will be suspected to sanction and possibly suspension.

Commissioner David Stern has sought to end flopping, believing it tricks the referees. Vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson says in a statement that “flops have no place in our game.”

Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports announced that they have a contract extension Thursday through 2014 with sponsor AARP and AARP Foundation.

The AARP Foundation signed a three-year deal in 2011 with its ”Drive to End Hunger” campaign to be Gordon’s primary sponsor. It became the first cause-related sponsorship to sign on as primary sponsor for a major race team.

The one-year extension gives Drive to End Hunger the opportunity to continue addressing hunger issues among elder Americans.

Jeff Gordon, a four-time NASCAR champion, has helped deliver food to food banks and actively supported the cause since partnering with the campaign. The initiative has led to the donation of more than 13 million meals to hungry older Americans and raised more than $17 million through corporate and individual support.

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy resigned last Sunday, after setting down the team set a franchise record for losses.

After the resignation of Tracy, The Rockies said that they are looking immediately for Tracy’s replacement. Colorado finished last in the NL West this year with records 64-98.

Jim Tracy was promoted from bench coach to manager last May 2009. He was voted the NL Manager of the Year that season after making the Colorado into the playoffs.

The Rockies went 294-308 under Tracy.

“I was surprised,” Bill Geivett, the team’s director of major league operations, told The Associated Press. “I wanted Jim to come back. That’s how we began our conversation on Friday, that he was the manager. But he called, informed me today he was resigning.”

Describing himself as “a proud gay man,” Puerto Rican featherweight boxer Orlando Cruz last Thursday becoming what is to be believed to be the first pro boxer to come out as a homosexual while competing in sports.

Orlando Cruz told The Associated Press in an interview that he is relieved about his decision he made but it had initial reservations.

”I developed physically and mentally to take such a big step in my life and in my profession, which is boxing, knowing that it would have pros and cons, highs and lows in this sport that is so macho,” he said. ”I kept this hidden for many, many years.”

Few active professional athletes have come out. There has yet to be an openly gay player in Major League Baseball, the NBA or NFL.

Reaction to Cruz’s announcement was largely positive across social media, with many praising him for taking what they called a brave step given the sport’s violent history. Among those who sent messages of support was Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin, who announced he was gay in 2010.

Bernhard Langer managed to win the SAS Championship last Sunday to take the lead against the leading score in the Charles Schwab Cup points race, shooting a 9-under 63 to beat Jay Don Blake by two strokes.

Four shots back entering the final round, Langer birdied the final two holes to finish at 13-under 203 at Prestonwood Country Club. The German star has two victories this year and 16 overall on the 50-and-over tour.

Blake closed with a 68. He needed a birdie on the par-4 18th to force a playoff, but hit a tree with his drive and bogeyed the hole. Mark Wiebe also

Marco Marcato was beaten to the line by Greg Van Avermet of Belgium in a head-to-head sprint last year, but this year he held firm and accepted a challenge from Laurens De Vresse of Belgium and Dutch rider Niki Terpstra.

A 146-mile (234.964 kilometers) trek from Chateauneuff-en-Thymerais to Tours is favored sprinters in recent years, and this was the case again as the three riders broke away.

German rider John Degenkolb, one of the pre-race favorites, could not match the pace and finished in fourth place, six seconds behind the front three, who all had times of 4 hours, 50 minutes, 34 seconds.

Usain Bolt, aims to defend his world record and planning to have a “three-peat” in the upcoming 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He also retained his titles 100m and 200m, as well as the 4x100m in 2012 London Olympic Games.

The 26-year old Jamaican said that he has decided to switch to either 400m or long jump.

“To do the three [sprints], that is the focus. I don’t want to try any different events at Rio,” he said.

“I will just defend my titles to show the world there’s a possibility I can do it again.”

Bolt became the first man to retain both Olympic sprint titles when he led home a Jamaica clean sweep in a time of 19.32 seconds in the 200m in London in August, with Yohan Blake in silver and Warren Weir in bronze.
